Haute Couture Fashion Week: A History

Everyone is aware of Fashion Week going through the cities of New York, Paris, and Milan. The lesser known to the public is Haute Couture Fashion Week. Personally, I absolutely love the few days in Paris where the most extravagant designs are shown. So let's dive into some fashion history!

In 1858 (literally forever ago) a designer named Charles Frederick Worth debuted the first ever couture fashion house in Paris. He coined the phrase Haute Couture which essentially means high dressmaking. Ten years later the label as a couture fashion designer was something that had to be earned. Jump to the 20th century Le Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture created rules for a fashion house to remain a couture. Paris, already known as one of the top fashion capitals of the world, was the birth place of Couture Fashion and has continued to host fashion shows for Haute Couture.

One aspect of Couture Fashion I adore are the fashion shows themselves. Not only are the designs breathtaking but the whole show is an experience. Late Karl Lagerfeld who was an icon in the fashion industry is known for his elaborate Couture Fashion shows with Chanel. Grand Palais a beautiful glass building in Paris known for measure exhibitions, festivals and theatrical productions. Karl Lagerfeld used the Grand Palais in many Chanel Couture Fashion shows and even made a replica of the Eiffel Tower inside for the 2006 show.

Here are some of my favorite looks from past years of Couture Fashion. Comment below what are your favorites?? Truly LOVE this season and can't wait to what is in-store for us fashion lovers!
